HERBERTON - HISTORIC TIN MINING VILLAGE.

Herberton was established in 1880 as part of the Herbert River tin mining field. Mining activities continued until 1978.

Herberton was the richest tin mining field in Australia at the time and boasted 20 hotels. Many of the original buildings and equipment are still intact, and quite a few are still in use in their original style.

Being 1000 metres above sea level, the Herberton area enjoys are mild climate with winter temperatures of about 14°C and summer temperatures averaging 29°C.

The altitude of this area is also responsible for the unique type of rainforest found in the immediate vicinity that is renowned for the number and diversity of its possums and rainforest birds.

South east of Herberton is the Mt Hypipamee National Park which includes Mt Hypipamee Crater, a huge 61 metre diameter hole in the ground thought to be a volvanic vent, and Dinner Falls.

ENTER THE LIONS

The Lions Club of Herberton will be chartered on the 20th June 2003.  The club members are made up of notable businessman and residents of Herberton who have agreed to donate some of their spare time for the benefit of the community at large.

As an extension to the Turkish Lions' contribution, the Brisbane Ekibin Lions Club of MD 201 Q1 (Australia) offer assistance to Lions Clubs who want to take advantage of the Turkish Lions offer, but are not familiar with web publishing. They've already set up many sites for Lions Clubs world-wide, using Lionwap.
If your club wants to be on the internet, and would like some help, leave a message in the Ekibin Guest Book by clicking on the image above.  This is a FREE SERVICE, so you don't spend a cent for their work. As Lionwap is also FREE, this means you get a web site that you NEVER have to pay for. - Is that a deal or what?
All your Club has to do it have some-one update and maintain your page, which needs not take more than a few minutes each month. The Ekibin Lions will even give you some tips on that!
